Frequently Asked Questions
SMP is a cosmetic and medical procedure that involves creating the look of hair follicles on the scalp to improve the appearance of hair loss or scars.
Most clients experience little to no painduring the SMP procedure, with the average level of discomfort rated at 1-4 out of 10.
The SMP dots placed in the dermis are 90-150 micrometers in diameter, similar in size to natural human hairfollicles, and are indistinguishable from real hair follicles when viewed from six inches or further away. Even family members standing one foot away (0.3 meters) can’t tell where your real hair ends and the SMP begins.
SMP is also known as a Hair Tattoo and has a similar process to that of a tattoo, but with some key differences. The needles, machines, and pigments used in SMP are specifically designed for the scalp and result in a more natural look.
Our micro needles are 80% smaller than standard tattoo needles and can be adjusted based on your particular follicle size, shape, and pattern.
We use one of the smallest and most advanced needles in the industry to create the most natural hair follicle replications out of any competitor in the business.
Prices are quoted on a case-by-case basis, but you can expect to pay between £1200-£3500. Prices are based on the current stage of hair loss and the treatment time required.
Our SMP treatment includes 3 sessions, spread out 1-2 weeks apart from each other. The average session lasts between 2-5 hours, with the first 30 minutes dedicated to discussing style needs, colour selection, and hairline positioning.
We are experienced professionals at matching colours, skin tones, and follicles. We use specialised ink that is divided into 10 different blends on multiple levels, allowing us to create any colour or shade.
SMP can treat a variety of conditions, including Alopecia, Male pattern baldness, Receding hairlines, Thinning hair, Crown hair loss, Head trauma, Surgical scars, and scarring from burns, accident/injury, or medical conditions, as well as damaged scalps due to weave and extensions.
The pigment should be fully settled within 3-5 weeks after the procedure, and we provide post-care guidelines to be followed for the first week. After that, we recommend protecting the scalp with high SPF Sunblock when planning to being under direct sun.
At MicroHair, we take pride in our work and aim to exceed our clients' expectations. To ensure this, we offer three sessions with every procedure and have received 5-star reviews across numerous platforms. In fact, we have never had an unsatisfied client, which means you can trust that we are dedicated to ensuring your satisfaction. Additionally, we provide a free 1-year guarantee.
We recommend waiting at least four days after your session before buzzing your hair. During this time, your scalp is healing, and you don't want to interfere with your body's natural healing process.
For the first 3-4 days following your treatment, you should keep all forms of moisture away from the treatment area. This means avoiding showering the area and refraining from exercise. After 3-4 days, you can go back to your normal activities. You can find more detailed information in our "Aftercare" section.
If the artist notices that your scalp is dry, they will recommend a moisturising regime that will take place one week after your procedure. Make sure to read our pre-care and post-care instructions on how to properly care for your scalp before and after your procedure.
Although scalp micro-pigmentation (SMP) is often referred to as a hair tattoo, it's important to note that our inks don't change colour after application like regular tattoos do.
At MicroHair, we use single-use hand-crafted micro-needles that are 80% smaller than commercially sold needles. Our machines and needles have been specifically designed for SMP.Our technique is also much different than a regular tattoo on the body.We are trained to use a much lighter touch to create follicle replications in the scalp specifically.
For this reason, it's important to choose a certified, trained, and experienced SMP technician to perform this type of procedure.
Our SMP technique produces unbelievably authentic and realistic results.Unless you tell them, people will have no clue.
None of our clients have ever been noticed after the procedure. It actually makes you look much younger with a more natural hairline.Check out our photo gallery for some examples of our work.
The most common response is "you should shave your head like that more often or "you look a lot younger, what did you do?"
But they can never pinpoint exactly what you did.The only time anyone will be able to notice you had something done is if you go to an artist that has not been properly trained or doesn't have enough experience.
Of course! You can check out our gallery, videos, and testimonial portfolio of years of completed work.
All of our team have also had the procedure, so you will be able to see the results first-hand during your face-to-face consultation.
Most of our procedures in London and Manchester are done by Marcin Adam, the founder of Micro Hair, who is one of the most trusted SMP artists in the world.
We take our work seriously and would not allow anyone without the proper experience or training to work on our clients. You can also follow our social media pages for more information.
We take your safety seriously and NEVER reuse our needles.
Each needle we use is single-use, and we go through several new needles for every session to ensure the highest level of cleanliness and sterility.
After your treatment, the most popular length suggestion is a 00 guard which is achieved with an electric head shaver.
However, we do have clients who prefer to razor-shave or foil-shave their scalp.
We advise against razor shaving as it can cause the need for more frequent touch-ups and can also affect the realistic appearance of the SMP blending into your natural hair.
Before your procedure, we will review images of your scalp and suggest the appropriate hair length to be cut.
In most cases, men will need to shave their head down to a 0 before their procedure to ensure the best results.
In short, no. The carbon-based pigment we use does not change colours.
However, there are a few reasons why the final result of an SMP procedure might appear blue or green.
Typically, this occurs due to the inexperience of the artist, where the pigment is deposited too deeply in the skin or the chosen colour is too dark for your skin tone.
But rest assured, we use only the highest-quality pigments to ensure your SMP procedure achieves a natural-looking result.
