Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), also known as a hair tattoo, is a highly effective and precise treatment that mimics the appearance of hair follicles on the scalp, creating the look of a fuller head of hair. To achieve the best possible results, a minimum of three sessions is essential. Each session serves a distinct purpose, contributing to the final outcome. At MicroHair® in Liverpool and Manchester, we ensure this process is carefully followed for optimal results.
Session 1: Building the Foundation
The first SMP session is crucial as it lays the foundation of your new hairline. During this session, around 20% of the total results are achieved. The primary focus here is the shape of the hairline, carefully designed to match your facial features and desired look. This initial session introduces the pigment to your scalp, but it’s intentionally lighter to allow room for future layers. You may notice some coverage, but the full density will not be apparent yet.
Session 2: Increasing Density
The second session, usually scheduled 7-14 days after the first, brings the results up to around 85% of the final outcome. During this phase, the primary focus is on increasing the density of the pigment. By layering more pigment and filling in areas that require additional coverage, the overall look becomes much fuller. This session helps blend the initial shape with the added density, creating a more natural and balanced appearance. The gaps from the first session are filled in, and the hairline begins to take its true form.
Session 3: Refining the Quality
The third and final session, typically done 4-8 weeks after the second session, is where the finishing touches are made. This session brings your results up to 100%. Here, the focus is on refining the overall quality of the treatment. It may involve adding subtle details, adjusting the tone, and making minor corrections to ensure that the final result looks as natural and flawless as possible. This final step is critical for ensuring the pigment settles evenly and creates the perfect blend with your natural skin tone.
Why the Gaps Between Sessions?
Allowing time between each session is essential for the healing process and the pigment to settle. The 7-14 day gap between the first and second sessions gives your scalp time to absorb the initial pigment, and we can see how your skin has taken the colour. The longer gap of 4-8 weeks between the second and third sessions allows for the final settling of the pigment, ensuring a lasting, high-quality result.
At MicroHair®, with locations in Liverpool and Manchester, we’ve fine-tuned this process to ensure you get the best results from your SMP treatment. Each session builds upon the last to create a natural, long-lasting appearance.
